Mary's Touch

“Love Mary! She is loveable, faithful, and constant. She will never let herself be outdone in love, but will ever remain supreme. If you are in danger, she will hasten to free you. If you are troubled, she will console you. If you are sick, she will bring you relief. If you are in need, she will help you. She does not look to see what kind of person you have been. She simply comes to a heart that wants to love her.”
St. Gabriel Possenti of Our Lady of Sorrows

What a gift we have in our Mother Mary! Unsullied by the stain of original sin, there is no disorder in the way she loves. Her love most reflects the way God loves us – unconditionally.

Like a good mother, Mary wants to assist us on our journey back to the Father. She knows each one of us -- usually better that we know ourselves. She sees our hurts, our fears, our wounds and disappointments. She’s aware of both our weaknesses and strengths. She knows everything about us – good and bad – yet loves us so!

We don’t have to be perfect for Mary. We are her cherished children. She gently points out our imperfections and assists us in overcoming them. She smiles at our goodness and relishes our virtues.

In times of danger, call out the name of Mary and she will respond in a flash! When troubles arrive at the door of our heart, Mary is the bridge to consolation. Sit with her and allow her peace to fill you and sustain you. When sickness strikes, welcome Mary’s motherly attention and cooling touch. She will release you from fear and replace it with trust in God’s plan.

Mary is always aware of our needs, at every moment of our lives. At Cana, even before the couple was informed of the impending disaster, she took the initiative by going to Jesus and averted their embarrassment. The celebration continued with most unaware of the miracle that had occurred. She did not need to be asked to intervene for them. She will do the same for us. Mary, with the help of her Son, can turn our times of troubled waters into a deep rich wine.

When we are standing at the foot of the cross, or nailed to the cross ourselves, Mary is there, offering her love and prayers. She keeps us company, as she did Jesus, staying with us through the dark times. She implores her spouse, the Holy Spirit, to send all the gifts and graces we need to sustain us. She is faithful, constant and full of love, not leaving us for a moment. She will remain with us till the end, when we have been freed from our cross.

Remember, you are Mary’s precious child. Let nothing you have done in the past keep you from running into the loving heart of Mary. Allow her love to perfect your love – for others, as well as yourself. Look into her eyes and see the image she has of you. Take delight in it and live it, believing in your goodness.

Hold your head high and walk as a child of Mary, straight into the heart of God!

  1. How comforting to think of Mary as standing beside us as we carry our crosses. And what a beautiful thought to be able to look into the eyes of Our dear Blessed Mother and see our own image there. Thank you for the continual words of comfort Avia Joy!!!
