He Has a Good Memory

“Go and find Him when your patience and strength run out and you feel alone and helpless. Jesus is waiting for you in the chapel. Say to Him, ‘Jesus, You know exactly what is going on. You are all I have and you know all things. Come to my help.’ And then go, and don’t worry about how you are going to manage. That you have told God about it is enough. He has a good memory.”                     St. Jeanne Jugan

We all have days when we feel alone and helpless, and find that our patience and strength is fleeting. We don’t see solutions to our problems, or are just too weary to even think about them. Life at those times seems burdensome and throwing in the towel is an attractive alternative.

Instead, when our day starts out on the wrong foot and everything seems to disintegrate; when we are taking our children to the doctors for the third time and our sleepless nights seem endless; when the leak that we thought was fixed begins to flow once again and our patience goes down the drain with it --our God is waiting for us to tell Him.

Jesus knows already knows this and tells us, “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy, and My burden light” (Mtt. 11 vs. 28-30).

How very blessed we are as Catholics, to have our Dear sweet Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist – the Sacrament of Love. He waits for us each moment of the day, to receive Him and be one with Him in Holy Communion. Visit with Him on our altars in the Monstrance or in our Tabernacles.

St. Jeanne recommends that when we have “one of those days,” we go to Jesus. Take advantage of the great gift of His true Presence in the Blessed Sacrament to go and unburden your soul. Jesus knows what is happening, but like any good friend, He is there to listen and smiles on us with His grace as we pour out our hearts. He wants to help us, and is pleased that we have come with our concerns, to implore His assistance.

After we have spent some time with Jesus, St. Jeanne then tells us, “to go, and don’t worry about how you are going to manage.” She wants us to be confident and assures us that our good God has in fact heard us. He knows even more about our situation than we do. We can then leave in peace, knowing that He will take care of it.

May we come to that great place of trust, peace and surrender that St. Jeanne speaks about. And when we are tempted to believe that our prayer request has been forgotten, let us recalls St. Jeanne’s final advice – God will not forget – “He has a good memory.”

“I am with You till the end of the age” (Mtt. 28 vs. 20).

St. Jeanne Jugan, pray for us!

  1. How comforting to know that we have a God who already knows before we even come to Him. What excellent advice you shared from St. Jeanne Jugan, thank you once again Avia Joy! I must agree with you that we are very blessed, not only to be called...but to be called as Catholics!
